Location of Robin Hood's Bay

"Bay" as it is known by the local inhabitants, nestles in a small depression in the coastline between the Yorkshire Coast seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough - 7 miles from Whitby, and 15 miles from Scarborough.

Turning off from the main Whitby - Scarborough trunk road (the A171) where signposted, the traveller drops down a steep incline with the wonderfully breathtaking view of Robin Hood's Bay and the cliffs of Ravenscar laid out in the distance. Depending on whether the village is aproached from Whitby or Scarborough, the traveller will pass through the small villages of either Hawsker or Fylingthorpe before reaching the upper village, where there are car parks and toilet facilities. Except for access for residents (both permanent and temporary) cars are not permitted to descend the steep road leading into the old village, which nestles in the small valley created by King's Beck as it hurries to empty into the sea by the dock.
